Some things to remember:

Recycled Aluminum Cans

My sister and I were sitting on a swing in her  backyard, ..her backyard is BIG!

 I was admiring her pond, garden art and flower beds as we chatted. She mentioned that she wanted to hang items on the fences, and trees, an eclectic style, a lot of color.... Hmmm.... I thought to myself..her birthday is coming up (6/18), I could make some cool items from aluminum cans and my Big Shot!
 
When I got home I started working on my idea. 

I have a box full of soda and beer cans cleaned and ready for cutting. I used Scallop Dies of all sizes, a Flower Die, Butterfly Die and Circle Die from Stampin Up. I also used a few Embossing Folders to emboss after I cut the designs. Then I pulled out my Piercing Tool and Mat, a few Brads and thin Wire.

Baby Wipe Flowers

I have a lot of colorful dry baby wipes. Yes baby wipes. I use them to wipe  paint  from brushes, my craft table, stamps, markers etc.. When I am done  I lay them flat and let them dry, then I put them in a basket and save them for future use.

Yesterday I made some flowers..Some came out pretty,  some blah and some didnt come out at all.
 I thought I got a picture of my finished scallops but didnt        
I did get a  'before'  picture of them.  See below.
 I also made a spiral type that look like roses.  The material ( baby wipe) is very thin to work with and at times I thought I was going to tear it. The finished flower is very delicate and soft looking. 

I have a lot of felt so I think I will make some more flowers!! : )

Flower festival Floats

It has been a busy time for us.

I finally found some time to post some pictures of the Floats that made it in the Flower Festival Parade.The Floats were made from the flowers that grow in our area. Each flower is glued on one at a time. They were up all night preparing for the parade.

These pictures were taken after the parade. The floats are parked a long a side street so we can look and take pictures.

The large float was the Festival Queen and her court.

The weather was great for the festival weekend.

The parade was small this year, only a few Floats. I guess the Economy is to blame.

New Lap Top

Well I bought myself a laptop. Lucky for me it was on sale. I got it for half price! I also bought a router and now I can roam the house and yard freely while on the internet! Yay! I always used a desktop. This is all new to me...you should see me and this....pad.... no mouse thing. LOL.
I have to figure out how to use the cd/dvd, pictures etc...Whew! It's like starting over!!!

The Flower Festival started today. The carnival, music and food booths. I live a block from the park, from certain rooms I can hear the music from the entertainers on the stage.
In my previous blog I forgot to mention that they take the flowers and make floats for the Parade. Some awesome looking floats. The Flower Fest. Queen and her Court ride the biggest float and it is completely decorated and designed by the prisoners from Lompoc Federal Prison. They do a beautiful job. All the Floats that enter the parade are voted on, 1st prize, 2nd etc. Also the bands and other entrants are voted on. I will be out taking pictures on Sat. Hopefully have some posted here for all to see.
In the meantime I am going to play with this new toy and try and figure out my way around. LOL

Earth Day

Back in High School( many years ago) we celebrated Earth Day. This was something new for everyone and Mother Earth. What a great idea! Ever since then I try to do my best not to waste anything.

Recycle Reuse thats my motto. Save rain water to water plants, never ever litter, plant a plant( or tree or flowers) plant a garden, feed the birds, walk, ride a bicycle, the list goes on.

SMALL things that we can incorporate into our daily living and make a BIG difference.

finishing up

It is finished! Yeah!! Working on the saw is time consuming. Takes awhile for the paint to really dry.

I decided that the saw needed something more. It just looked to blah to me. So, I added small white flowers around the larger flowers and added a darker green to the trees. Now I am done. Tomorrow the customers will come and pick it up. I hope they like it.

I was featured in a blog the other day Meekiyu's Dream. It was a very pleasant surprise. It is good to know that people are really out there looking. Plus I was able to see meekiyus work and admired it. She does some awesome things so go check out her blog.

Well I better go and put the handles on the saw and clear my table for more "stuff".
