Getting things done!

My mom had to have surgery  the end of Oct.  We are staying with her during her recovery which will take about 8 weeks!!  My mom will be 90 on the 28th of Nov.. She is so active and her mind is good and  she is VERY independant!!!   Trying to keep her still..... yeah right!....sitting in the waiting room during her 3 1/2 hour surgery was much easier!! lol  She is recovering well, her positive attitude has helped her heal.

I have a craft show coming up on the 1st of December in Lompoc Calif. at the Veterans Memorial Bldg on Locust. Stop by if you are in the area.  I am making a lot of craft items for the event using my Stampin Up products.

Right now I have a shoulder injury so I am resting (and seeing my chiropracter) . Hopefully I will be better next week.

Here are a couple of items I made.

Old Town Sacramento Civil War Soldiers

For as long as I can remember I love anything related to the Civil War Era. Books, magazines, pictures, movies. I even have a Civil War Trading Card Collection. It isnt just the War itself that I find interesting  it's the way of life, the true story of real people. History! I dont understand how brother could fight against brother. Both my Great- Great Grandfathers fought...against each other only to become friends later in life! What can I say... I find the whole thing fasinating, I really do.

While walking around Old Town we decided we needed a break. It was getting hot so my family and I decdided to sit down and have an ice cream...mmm.

While we were enjoying our treats...I saw them! Northern Soldiers on horses coming towards us!!
OMG!! They pulled up next to us, got off their horses and walked up onto the sidewalk!! Was I happy??? Oh yeah!!!  REAL Soldiers from the Civil War!!!  ; )

I asked if I could have my picture taken with them. They said "You sure can" So I ended up with quite a few.  My son Erik said " My momma is so happy right now!"
YOU THINK??!!!

Old Town

My husband and I have been traveling since Aug 1. We have been as far south as Oxnard,Ca. all the way up to Marysville Ca. and then over to Reno Nevada. The weather has been great. Hot days and warm evenings...my bones love this. I dont do well in cold weather.
We have been to a Luau, Surprise Birthday Party, a Family Reunion, and visiting friends and family that we havent seen in a long time. Visiting old Historical towns and museums of all sorts.

One stop was at Old Town Sacramento Gold Rush Days. We saw Old fashioned trains, stage coaches, Civil War Soldiers ( more on that next blog!!) we walked along the River/Delta, walked on a Riverboat and sooo much more.

This Riverboat is a hotel!  Can you imagine what life was like traveling along the River!!  I would be happy. Such  peaceful surroundings.

Then we saw "REAL" cowboys and gunslingers!!
A shootout that nearly scared the you know what out of us!!
We saw men and women walking around in the dress of the 1800"s it made us wonder  how the people survived in the heat with the clothes they wore during that era.. Whew! Hot!!

more pictures coming soon of our day in Old town Sacramento!

Here I am!

I have been MIA lately. Been busy.
My husband and I are moving!
I need to live where the climate is warmer. Too damp and cool here for me, healthwise.. Wont be too far away, my mom is about 30 miles east of here and yes it is 20 degrees warmer so we will look around and decide where we want to settle.
We are packing our belongings and putting it in storage. As I am packing I am also tossing out or will sell at garage sale or donate!!  So much stuff that I really dont need or use.
We will take off for a month or two! Just travel here and there....play tourist,  visit family and friends, whatever!
 Why not.
My husband retired a few years ago so now is as good a time as any.
I will blog and take pictures of our travels.
Also I will be taking my Stampin Up supplies with me. I have a couple of workshops booked, one in southern Ca. and a few online ideas so
......stay tuned!

Yummy Dulce de Leche

A few years ago I had the pleasure of tasting homemade Dulce de Leche. I loved it. It had a smooth caramel flavor.  I never got the recipe.
Since then I would go to the store and buy different brands that came in a can or a jar but they never tasted as good.
Then I went on Creating the Hive and came across Donna De Graws Blog about Dulce de Leche Bars. (yummy) Her blog led me to Your Home Based Mom Blog
  http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/

In her blog she gives a recipe for Crock Pot Dulce de Leche.. I had to try it.

OMG!!!!

Not only easy peasy but mmmmmmmmmm so good.... just as I remembered!!

As you see someone (ahem) has already tasted some.
Here is the recipe

2      14oz cans Sweetened Condensed Milk

3      8 ounce jars with lid

                                               Crock Pot and water

Pour the SCM equally into jars. close tightly with lid
Put jars in crock pot and cover completely with water. (told you it was easy)
Place lid on crock pot
Put crock pot on Low and let cook for 10 hours
After 10 hours remove jars and open one to taste! mmmmmmmmmm
That's it!!

Thank you Donna De Graw and Home Based Mom!

Pinwheels

I have always loved Pinwheels! I seem to have them scattered around my house ...in flower pots, vases, houseplant decor, even have a few scattered out in the garden! All colors and all sizes! I love them!!
Then, on you tube I saw a lady named Frenchie make a card and embellished it with a pinwheel!!

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkmuNQZvXHc&feature=plcp

I saw that and .......
I had to make one...then two and so on and so on. My craft table is now covered with pinwheels of all sizes and colors!

With all these pinwheels I had to make some cards Right!??

Here are 2 cards that I made and listed in my etsy store

Recycled Aluminum Cans

My sister and I were sitting on a swing in her  backyard, ..her backyard is BIG!

I was admiring her pond, garden art and flower beds as we chatted. She mentioned that she wanted to hang items on the fences, and trees, an eclectic style, a lot of color.... Hmmm.... I thought to myself..her birthday is coming up (6/18), I could make some cool items from aluminum cans and my Big Shot!

When I got home I started working on my idea.

I have a box full of soda and beer cans cleaned and ready for cutting. I used Scallop Dies of all sizes, a Flower Die, Butterfly Die and Circle Die from Stampin Up. I also used a few Embossing Folders to emboss after I cut the designs. Then I pulled out my Piercing Tool and Mat, a few Brads and thin Wire.

                                                                Voila! Ready to hang!

Traveling on the Interstate!!

On the 10th of May my husband , my mom and I took off in moms chrysler for Reno to attend my Great Niece's wedding on the 11th.( We took moms car because we thought it would be easier for her to get in and out of the car...we have a truck). On Hiway 5... in middle of nowhere land  the car made a loud noise ,started smoking and just stopped!  .
Called AAA,  and after a couple of hours and a few BIG TRUCKS zooming by the tow truck arrived.( a couple of cars did stop and people offered to help or  they offered water, which was nice)
Once we all got into the tow truck the driver made a U turn on the freeway (I mean it.... we were in the middle of nowhere land) We arrive at the only garage in a very small town . Its closed...luckily the mechanic was sitting in his car and saw the tow truck. He came over and took the information etc. Tow truck driver says he isnt leaving us in the middle of nowhere (It is late and very dark outside) so he takes us to the only Hotel/motel in town.... no vacancy. So he takes us to a Mexican restaurant  nearby that is still open and lets us out  after making sure that my son  2 1/2 hrs away (closest person to where we were) is coming to pick us up. At the restaurant ( food was excellant BTW) the waitress and the owner made us very comfortable, let us put our suitcases safely away, charge my cell phone. Well.. they close at 9 pm my son is still an hour and a half away. Waitress didnt want us to sit on bench outside ..so she takes us to her house around the corner and there we waited for my son. Her whole family was so nice. We became friends with them and actually had a good time! It was instant friendship. When my son arrived they told him to sit and relax before we head out.
We finally arrived at my sons house at 1:30 in the morning. On Sat my son, his fiance, mom, my husband and I took off to my sister's home in Reno.
Three  weeks later the car is still in the shop, 2 cracked heads and waterpump. It is too far from home to have it towed so.... we rented a car in Reno and drove home.
.....oh and the rental....  An hour and a half from Reno we noticed  a nail in the front tire,  so we got it fixed at a well known tire place. An hour later we  stopped to get gas and we noticed  that the same nail is still in the tire!!  Husband called the tire place.. and "oops, forgot to take the nail out"!! We just drove home with the nail. WE WERE GOING TO GO HOME!!

Its not funny but it is!!

Must look at it this way.... a bad thing became a good thing...made friends with wonderful people,   My brother in law had just got home from the hospital so I was able to help him and my sister during our stay, spent good quality time with family, My mom really enjoyed her visit with my sister, brother in law and grandkids (first time she has been away from home in years ). So as they say
 " God has a reason"

Now that I am back I need to get going with Stampin up. I didnt bring any of my craft "stuff" with me because 'we would only be gone for a few days!'
The new catalog came out June 1 and is in English and Spanish. I ordered a few so if you would like a copy let me know and I will send one to you.Or you can see the catalog on my site.

Oh and by the way.....we missed the wedding!!

Sunshine and Flower Fields

I  love the warm weather. I seem to be more motivated to do something!

Right now the flower fields are in bloom. It looks so pretty,  a carpet of color on the ground. In the evening you can smell the sweet fragrance of the flowers.

Some of these flowers will be placed on floats for the annual Flower Festival. Years ago the fields were everywhere but now we only have a few fields left. The parade had many floats, now only a handful. Kinda sad.

To see some of the flower fields go to google images type in Lompoc Calif flower fields.
There are so many pictures, they are just beautiful.

I am going to go outside and enjoy this nice weather.
Have a great day!!

Gift Cards

I like small gift cards to go along with a gift bag or package. I really dont like the plain cards that
usually come with a gift bag. They match but... not really personal.

I decided to make a few to have around for myself and a few to sell on my online shops.
I choose a variety of all occasions.  Happy Birthday, Thank you etc etc...

I made the envelopes too. I used my Diagonal Score Plate from Stampin Up. Easy peasy!
(I am now addicted to making envelopes!! All sizes!!!)

I used  scrap pieces of  DSP paper and Card Stock from my scrap box and I used the Simply Scoring
Tool, Punches, Stamps, Ink, all  from Stampin Up!.

It was quick and easy.

I may just make some more!!

My daughter's Wedding

My daughter Charlotte was married on April 7th. I must admit everything was perfect. We had so much fun. Her God Father performed the ceremony which really made it Special.
This is Charlottes second marriage and Roberts first.  She wore a champaign colored dress and the Groom and his Groomsmen vests matched the Sash on her dress.
Charlotte and Robert planned and paid for the entire wedding!!! Charlotte even made the bouquets!
(I made the Reserved Table Cards and Card Box and the Bridal Shower Invitations but that was it!)
Here is a sample of one of the placecards I made before I wrote the family names and the cupcake flavors.

My sister- in- law took these photos. We are waiting for the Professional Photos to arrive but in the meantime I wanted to share.

This is the father daughter dance.

Roberts dad took this photo. So Cool!  Robert is in the middle(of course). On the far right is our youngest son Erik

Like I said "It was PERFECT!!"

A Tisket a Tasket a Card Stock Basket!!

I made this basket using Stampin'Up! smooth card stock. You could change the color and embellishment and it would make a cute basket for Easter. I used the Blossom Punch on this basket and Melon Mambo and Whisper White card stock, brown ink, and Mixed Bunch Stamp Set.

Soft Suede Card Stock
4 ¼” x 11”,  ¾” x 8 ½”

White Ribbon 14 inches long

Sticky Strip Tape
Stampin Dimensionals
Glue Dots
Striped texture Folder
Simply Scored score Pal
Big Shot

Run 4 ¼” x11” Cardstock through Big Shot using the striped texture Folder

Score at  1 ¾”, 3 ½”,  5 ¼”, 7”,  8 ¾”,  10½”
turn over and at the 4 ½” side score down at 2 ¾”
cut off short corner tab
cut strips to the 2 3/4 line to make flaps
On front of basket CS add Sticky Strip to ½” tab on right edge
and edge of 1st and 4th flaps from left edge.
Flip basket over, add Sticky Strip to edge of 1st and 4th flaps
Fold basket layer along score lines. Adhere ½” tab to inside of opposite end.
Creating a hexagon shape.

Remove Sticky Strip backing from the two flaps on front side
Fold those two flaps in so they just meet in the center.
Fold down the two flaps without Sticky Strip, press to adhere.
Remove Sticky Strip backing from the two remaining flaps.
Fold down, press to adhere. Also press from inside the basket to get a good bond.
Add two small strips of Sticky Strip next to each other on both ends of the
¾” x 8 ½” “ Soft Suede CS strip.
Adhere to inside of basket centered on two opposite sections of hexagon basket to create handle.
Adhere two mini glue dots to bottom edge of each ribbon, attach to inside basket just below handle.
Wrap ribbon around handle until you reach the center, tie a bow and trim ends.
Add embellishment to basket using stampin Dimensionals

Paper and Envelopes

I have all sorts of paper...cardstock, designer paper, fancy and not so fancy.
When I got my Simply Scored Diagonal Plate from Stampin Up I decided to make use of some of this paper.
I made envelopes of all sizes, small to big, square to rectangle.
Then I decided to make some large file type to store large papers and/or important papers.
I made a few for my mom.  I stamped an image on yellow cardstock and used a scallop punch for the bottom edge. On the box envelope I made a flower using the Blossom Punch and inked the edges. She loved it ! I made a few boxes to hold cards and now I am thinking of making some small gift boxes with the thicker cardstock.
Its a nice way to use up the stacks of paper

More Flowers!!

Ok , as I said I would do on my previous Post I made some flowers using the felt that I have. I think they came out pretty darn cute. Not sure what I will do with them but I am sure I will come up with something.  The red and black flowers kinda/sorta look like red poppies. The American Legion Auxilliary has Poppy Month coming up hmm .... I could make brooches and hand them out at our Meetings!   What do you think?

The scallop flowers ( poppy)  I used my Big Shot and the Scallop Die.
